Do You Want to Know What Pope Benedict is Going to Do?
Do you want to know what Pope Benedict is going to do?
If you want to know what Pope Benedict is going to do listen the American founder of Ignatius Press, a leading Catholic publisher.
Founder Fr. Joseph Fessio is a very close friend and former doctoral student of the new pope. Ratzinger when still a Cardinal visited the Fessio’s San Francisco based Ignatius Press as a show of support.
Ignatius Press’ Catholic World Report was one of the first publications to expose the Catholic sex abuse scandal and has done numerous insider reports on the American Catholic Church. So expect Pope Benedict to be the most informed pope in history on the American Church.
There are a number of pro-abortionist and pro-sodomy member of the American Church who a shaking in their boots. They are the source of a lot of the negative media campaign against the new pope. But don’t expect any heads to start rolling. Fessio and Benedict are more interested in “a great renewal of the liturgy” and one last shot at saving a dying Europe.
In my opinion, if they have the time, once they realize that Europe is a waste of time they will turn to the United States and Latin America, which holds the majority of Catholic in the world.
Here is what Father Fessio said about Pope Benedict’s agenda on the "News Hour with Jim Lehrer" on PBS:
“You see one of the things which is important is his name; he took the name Benedict. St. Benedict was a saint of the 6th Century who, when the Roman Empire was invaded by barbarians, was declining, was corrupting from within.
Benedict left the city of Rome, went out into the countryside, Subiaco, and prayed. Others joined him, he founded a monastery, by 1200 there were 40,000 Benedictine monasteries throughout Europe.
The Benedictines, through prayer and worship and praise of God, through leaving a corrupting superpower, actually gave Europe its culture, created Christendom and I think that Ratzinger, just as Father just said, wants to go back to that root, that origin which made Europe great and gave it great art and great music and literature and history and philosophy and theology.
He wants to go back to that and re-evangelize Europe. Also very important: He didn't publish many books the last years because what he published was many collections of talks, collections of articles he'd written, but he did publish one book called ‘The Spirit of the Liturgy.’
And that was his vision of what it member to worship God in a beautiful and profound and reverent way. And he believes the way to transform human society is to transform the heart, and that every heart is made for God, to worship God privately but also worship God publicly.
And so I believe that because Benedict founded monasteries whose work was the work of God, worship and prayer, that he is going to bring fruition to a great renewal of the liturgy, which the Second Vatican Council promised.”

A Priest’s Way to Happiness. Wow!
A Priest’s Way to Happiness. Wow!
Father Edward Warren S. J. was a Dean for 25 years at Santa Clara University. Since retiring in 1988, he helps out at parishes in the Bay Area. Everyone who meets him is struck be his joy and kindness. In the mid 1970’s, this reporter was hitchhiking in San Jose. He had lost his faith and was surprised to be picked up by a joyful man in a Roman collar. Father Warren’s kindness and charity for me bring to mind the person of Pope John Paul II. This reporter is sure that his encounter with Father is one of the factors in God’s mysterious providence and grace that helped bring him back to the faith. Please pray for Fr. Warren’s eyes, which are failing him.
Q. How and why did you decide to become a priest?
A. You have not chosen me. I have chosen you Our Lord said. I thank you Our Lord for choosing me for his love. He uses parents and friends for his mysterious choices. I had good religious parents. Also, I went to U. C. Berkley and belonged to the Newman club. There I got in contact with those who went to Mass everyday for Lent. They wanted me to go everyday with them for Lent. This was a new idea for me. I survived. I didn’t die. So, I kept going everyday after Lent.
This encounter got me going to daily Mass. That’s when I meet Monsignor Terrance Nugent who was from Ireland. He said the Jesuits were a good place to go for a retreat. At the time, I had a janitor job following in my father’s footsteps-God bless him for his daily work. So for my vacation, I went to the Jesuit retreat house in Los Altos. There I met Father William Boland. He was a perfect gentleman and scholar. He asked me if I ever thought of being a priest. He said he thought I would be a good priest. I thought I’d like to be like Fr. Boland. I thought exactly like that. My mother worked so I could go to school. God is faithful.
God made it clear that this was my life. It’s been a love affair-a successful marriage with Jesus. The more we know about Jesus, the more we love him. The heart of the matter is that the spiritual life is a love affair.
I entered the Jesuit Seminary at Los Altos in 1940. I was allowed go for a Doctorate at U. C. Berkley, but I didn’t get the Ph. D because I didn’t do my thesis. I couldn’t sleep, so they send me to Santa Clara University. It was an eternal humiliation. I was an instructor for four years and an assistant dean for 25 years where I helped in training teachers, counselors and school administrators. In 1988, I formally retired. Since then, I’ve been involved with priestly parish work. I help out at the Poor Clare's in the Los Altos Hills and other parishes.
Q. What is your most difficult experience as a priest?
A. Being fired from a job and being put in another job I liked better. God has a good sense of humor. I love it. I was fired from a director position. I was replaced by a person my superior thought would do a better job. I was moved to assistant dean of counseling, psychology and education. I liked it because of its influence. You were dealing with people who influenced people. It was like training generals and colonels instead of privates and sergeants. St. Ignatius thought it good to work with those who influence more people.
Q. What was your happiest time in the priesthood?
A. It isn’t over yet. So, there might still be happier times. It might be when you are allowed to die and be with God. But, it was the time when I realized this is my vocation. I’m happy in my work. We are dealing with Divine grace and eternal life. These are important things. We are not dealing in little things.
The more one realizes God is happiness, the more one is happy. Happiness is realizing one is in touch with reality. The more one know Our Lord, the more solid and happy one is. That is why we are called the Society of Jesus. We are focused on Him. My purpose in life is to get to heaven and to bring as many people as I can. Happiness is in worshiping God and loving my neighbor.
Q. What would you tell people who are worried about problems in the Church? What would you tell them so they can be at peace?
A. Don’t be surprised. Oh boy, evil in the Church. What else is new? There are going to be weeds. That is the human element in the Church. Eventually the weeds will be pulled, but the wheat will be preserved. All things work out for those who love God. Return good for evil. Call down God’s blessings on your enemy. Jesus on the cross called down God’s blessings on His enemies. It works. Jesus didn’t kill anyone. He healed and loved. It’s a strange thing that by His wounds we are healed. By His wounds we are healed.
The more we learn about Jesus, the more loveable He becomes. He is present in all seven sacraments. Be very grateful for the Holy Scripture. The more we expose ourselves to His Word, the more bold we get. Remember to do as He said. Ask and it shall be give to you. All things come through Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life. I am with you all days even on to the end of the world. That’s an extraordinary statement. He is talking to the Church.
Q. What advice can you give lay people for the times we are living in?
A. Pray everyday without fail to the almighty God; that’s the most important thing. Spend your life and possessions helping out of love of God. Time is short. We don’t have much time to be good, especially with the people we live with.
You know not the time or hour of death. So, when we go to work we might not come back. Our Lord wants us to be prepared for death every moment. That’s not scary superstitious religion. It’s just a fact of life. In this days with drive by shootings and car as well as airplane crashes. This is just being realistic. It’s not like doomsayers who say we have one year before the end of the world. We have to be prepared this day.
Q. What advice can you give priest for the times we are living in?
A. Say this prayer: “My Jesus transform us into incarnate love.” Our life’s work has to be to keep the two commandments. Love God above all things and love our neighbor above all things. He gives us the power to do it. Jesus is living in us. God is love. Jesus, God incarnate became love on two legs. Wow!

Does the Timing of the Pope’s Death tell us about the Second Coming?
Does the Timing of the Pope’s Death tell us about the Second Coming?
Last week Zenit reported that the Pope died shortly after the Mass for Divine Mercy was said in his room on the vigil of the Divine Mercy Feast. John Paul II instituted this feast.
In the history of the Church the timing of the death of saints has many times had deep symbolic meaning. So I said last week that maybe the timing of Pope’s death might tell us something about the second coming. The official teaching of the Catholic Church on the time before the second coming is:
“Before Christ's second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that [will offer]... men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.”(Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 675)
According to the EWTN website Pope John Paul II believed that the Divine Mercy message was important in this “critical phase of the end times.” The website said:
“To this fact Pope John Paul II alluded at the consecration in 1981 of the Shrine of Merciful Love in Collevalenaza, Italy, when he noted the ‘special task’ assigned to him by God ‘in the present situation of man, the Church and the world.’ In His Encyclical on the Father he urges us ‘ to implore God's mercy for humanity in this hour of history ... to beg for it [in] this difficult, critical phase of the history of the Church and of the world as we approach the end of the second millennium.’" (Rich in Mercy 15)

Does this mean the second coming is near? The answer seems to be yes if you’re one of those who believe in the message of the private revelation given to Sr. Faustina. John Paul II believed that message, which lead to his instituting the Divine Mercy Feast. According to Sr. Faustina’s Diary Our Lord told her:
-“You will prepare the world for My final coming.” (Diary 429)
-“Speak to the world about My mercy ... It is a sign for the end times. After it will come the Day of Justice. While there is still time, let them have recourse to the fountain of My mercy.” (Diary 848)
-“Tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice, is near.” (Diary 965).
“I am prolonging the time of mercy for the sake of sinners. But woe to them if they do not recognize this time of My visitation.” (Diary 1160)
-“Before the Day of Justice, I am sending the Day of Mercy.” (Diary 1588)
-“He who refuses to pass through the door of My mercy must pass through the door of My justice.” (Diary 1146).

Do I think the second coming is near?
I don’t know. But I do know for sure if you’re a baby boomer like myself you’re time before facing the Lord’s justice is probably 10 to 30 years away if not tonight as you sleep. Turn to Our Lord’s Mercy now for the sake of your future eternity and so you can have peace now.

Is the Pope’s Death a Preparation for the Second Coming?
Is the Pope’s Death a Preparation for the Second Coming?
Is the Pope’s death a preparation for the Second Coming? I don’t know nor does anyone except for God. However, maybe the timing of his death may tell us something.
Zenit reported that the Pope died shortly after the Mass for Divine Mercy was said in his room on the vigil of the Divine Mercy Feast. John Paul II instituted this feast.
St. Faustina in her dairy of her apparition wrote that the Lord said:
“Before the Day of Justice, I am sending the Day of Mercy.”
Do I think the Second Coming is near? I don’t know. But I do know we need to pray with Pope John Paul II for mercy for the ourselves and all seduced by the “ideology of evil” that controls the worldwide “culture of death.”
Terri’s murder proved this, but it also proved there are many fighting on the side of the “culture of life.” In a recent poll it was revealed after her murder that 79% of Americans wanted her to continue living.
John Paul 2 we love you! Please pray for us.

Pope John Paul II wants us to pray the rosary now (I believe he is in heaven) not for him...for the next pope.
Pope John Paul II wants us to pray the rosary now (I believe he is in heaven) not for him, but for the world and the Church. Please pray for the Cardinals who will elect the next pope and for the next pope. Pope John Paul II said in "Rise, Let Us Be On Our Way": " There is always a problem in achieving a balance between authority and service. Maybe I should have been more assertive."
I believe Our Lord wanted John Paul to be a teacher and a servant, but the now the new pope in my opinion will have the hard job of being " more assertive." Assertive in love as a father who see his son about ruin his life. We need to pray much for the Cardinals and the new pope.
The Power of the Rosary
The Rosary is my favorite prayer. A marvelous prayer! Marvelous in its simplicity and in its depth...
Against the background of the words "Hail Mary" there pass before the eyes of the soul the main episodes in the life of Jesus Christ. They are composed altogether of the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries, and they put us in living communion with Jesus through — we could say — His Mother's heart.
At the same time our heart can enclose in these decades of the Rosary all the facts that make up the life of the individual, the family, the nation, the Church, and all humankind. They include personal matters and those of our neighbor, and particularly those who are closest to us. Thus in the simple prayer of the Rosary beats the rhythm of human life.
— POPE JOHN PAUL II
