What is the San Francisco VOTF’s Real Agenda?

By Fred Martinez

The pro-gay San Francisco Chronicle recently printed an article about a controversial “Catholic” organization including an email address and phone number on how to get in contact with the group, which the newspaper described as not being “fringe.”

The group is Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) that is opposed nationally by Faithful Voice. Spokeswoman for Faithful Voice, Carol McKinley claims the organization is “profoundly” deceptive.

“VOTF is controversial as a result of the profound deception of the individuals in leadership and teaching positions. While they deny their affiliation with Call to Action, VOTF's founding members Jan Leary, Fr. Walter Cuenin and others are keynote speakers at the Spring Call to Action Conference, right along with Joanna Manning of "Catholics for Free Choice", an abortion advocacy group,” McKinley said.

“In VOTFs meetings with the Bishops, they purport they are "centrist" on the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. But the agents who act on their behalf, Fr. Ray Schroth, James Carroll, Anthony Massimini, Anthony Padovano, Bishop Gumbleton and many others, are teaching philosophies contrary to the Church.”

As reported in the San Francisco newspaper Peg Gleason and her husband, Ed, begin the first Bay Area chapter of Voice of the Faithful, a national group started in Boston, which claims it wants to end the church sex abuse scandal by ending “medieval” traditions.

“A lot of them [the bishops] want to continue the cover-up. The bishops and their spokesman still want the cover-up,” VOTF Bay Area leader Ed Gleason said. “This is medieval tradition. The only ones who still have this are the Moslems. But some are more open than others.”

Faith Voice claims that VOTF has more on it’s agenda than to end to medieval traditions.

“Their [VOTF‘s] agenda is to create a democratic American church which votes on the acceptance of Divine Law by 2/3 vote, hires and fires its priests, Bishops and in fact Pope,” McKinley said. “Here in Boston, they actually have a "Bishop's Search Committee" who believes they are recruiting for the next Archbishop of Boston. It is delusional.”

The Chronicle however presented VOTF as being mainstream by quoting Theresa Murphy of St. Ignatius Church who attended the Voice of the Faithful meeting at the Jesuit run University of San Francisco on February 4.

Murphy said in the San Francisco newspaper that the leaders starting VOTF in San Francisco such as Ed and Peg Gleason who are members of St. Teresa Parish are"not fringe people; they are the real backbone of their churches."

According to Lesbian Jane Meredith Adams in her article for the San Francisco Magazine Online website she returned to the Gleason’s parish St. Teresa’s Catholic because a teacher at the class for returning Roman Catholics claimed "The church is awful on that stuff [“Rome saying gay people are ‘objectively disordered’.”] Nobody listens to them about sex."

Adams also said recently deceased Father Peter Sammon pastor of St. Teresa’s Catholic “was the reason I’d returned to the church.” The San Francisco Magazine article presented Sammon as a close associate of Rep. Nancy Pelosi who is now House minority leader.
“Later, at the funeral [of Sammon], Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi described how Father Peter gave her hell for not moving fast enough to help the poor,” according to Adams writing for the pro-homosexual San Francisco Magazine.

Homosexual and abortion leader Pelosi even made a congressional floor statement in honor of Father Peter Sammon on April 16, 2002.

The radical national gay & lesbian newsmagazine Web site The Advocate on December 24, 2002 had a headline that said “The Selection of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Ensures Gay Rights will Stay on the Agenda”

Also, according to the Human Events online November 18, 2002 issue “Few! members of the House over the years have been as zealous in their pursuit of unlimited abortion rights as Mrs. Pelosi, a Roman Catholic who has steadfastly supported partial-birth abortion.”

The Human Events article as well said “Pelosi backed an amendment to the District of Columbia appropriations bill that would have permitted the use of local funds to force the Boy Scouts of America to reinstate two gay leaders and compensate them with $50,000 each.”

VOTF organizer Ed Gleason was asked what was Father Sammon’s relationship with Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. He said “Fr. Sammon was the one of the greatest priests in San Francisco. You are way off base.” Gleason then hung up the phone.

To be fair to Gleason, the question could have sounded to him like a suggestion that Sammon had a romantic relationship with Pelosi. Unfortunately instead of allowing this reporter to clarify the question for him he started name-calling and hung up the phone.
But the question still stands as to why “one of the greatest priests in San Francisco” was so closely associated with one of the top congressional ringleaders of radical homosexuality and abortion.

Is associating with a top leader of the radical homosexual and abortion movement part of the criteria that “mainstream” VOTF Catholics use to judge if a pastor is “one of the greatest priests in San Francisco?”

As stated earlier the Chronicle presented VOTF as being mainstream by quoting Theresa Murphy a founding member and parishioner at St. Ignatius Church who attended the Voice of the Faithful meeting at the California Jesuit run University of San Francisco on February 4.

The pro-homosexual The Jesuit Urban Center website presently has a link to Theresa or John Murphy of St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco. VOTF leader Theresa Murphy was emailed from the Jesuit website link, but declined to be interviewed for this article.
The Jesuit Urban Center director Father Thomas Carroll is a strong supporter of VOTF. He recently attacked Faithful Voice on the Jesuit website for not “dialoguing” with Voice of the Faithful.

“One of the hallmarks of Call to Action and dissenting groups is their use of the word ‘dialogue‘. They wish to bring unity through ‘dialogue‘. The problem is, the dialogue must end in concession to their ideas of the ‘dialogue’ or we are silenced... You use your free will to accept it or reject it - - but the dialogue ends where the Magisterium begins,” Faithful Voice spokeswoman McKinley said.

”The Jesuit Urban Center places the crucifix as a symbol of the Roman Catholic Faith. Yet, its reputation for advocating the virtue of homosexual acts is historical. I suspect this is real impetus for Fr. Carroll's attack on our group.”

Fr. Carroll, a native of San Francisco and member of the California province of the Society of Jesus on April 10,2002 opposed an amendment before the Massachusetts legislature to ban homosexual marriage in that state according to the October 2002 San Francisco Faith.

In the October San Francisco Faith investigative report Maria Kennedy said that “The Jesuit Urban Center seems to be at the center of homosexual activism in the Boston area.”
Carroll’s California province of the Society of Jesus, which allowed VOTF (a self proclaimed anti-sex abuse group) to meet at University of San Francisco on February 4, also has incongruously allowed the pro-homosexual sex abuse play "The Vagina Monologues" to be preformed on the USF campus.

The California Province of the Society of Jesus in Los Gatos while in the middle of its own sex abuse scandal according to a April 23, 2002 San Jose Mercury article reported that Fr. Joseph Fessio, S. J., despite being America's top orthodox publisher of Roman Catholic literature was “forced into an obscure chaplain's job in Los Angeles after he criticized the University of San Francisco as too liberal and sought to open his own orthodox college."
The Mercury said “One criticism he [Fessio] made in February – just before the enforced exiled happened – was about the USF establishment's plan to allow students to enact a production of a play called "The Vagina Monologues.''

E. Michael Jones said in Culture War magazine that "The Vagina Monologues" is a sex abuse play. Commenting on the play when it ran at Notre Dame University, he said, "It also features a graphic description of the lesbian seduction of a minor, which is excused precisely because a lesbian is doing the molesting.”

Faithful Voice claims it isn’t incongruent that VOTF would meet at a campus that promoted a pro-homosexual sex abuse play. McKinley asserts that VOTF’s philosophy is not inconsistent with pro-homosexual activism or amoral theologians and teachers.

“Gays, Lesbians, Bisexual and Transgenders are attracted, naturally, by the VOTF philosophers, theologians and teachers who tell them they may decide what is right and wrong in their own conscience. In fact, it attracts anyone who rather hear that their salvation is independent of their obedience to Divine Law...Now, they wish to "change" it from within. I think they are astounded at our refusal to submit to their demands,” McKinley said.

“This is their American Church and Roman Catholics are extremely offended by it, and are resisting it. Why? Because it makes Christ's Redemptive Incarnation and Crucifixion unnecessary.”

Gleason was asked if the church scandal is a homosexual problem. He said “ The evidence isn’t out on that.”
However U.S. News & World Report columnist John Leo reported that studies have shown that 5 percent or less of priests fit the pedophile description. He said, "Most sexual victims of priests are teenage boys [abused in homosexual acts], according to one estimate. A study of Chicago's 2,200 priests identified 40 sexual abusers, only one of whom was a pedophile."

According to the News Agency's "The World Seen From Rome," Hastings Wyman, syndicated homosexual columnist, wrote: "[T]he pattern of sexual abuse among Catholic clergy does suggest a gay problem … 90 percent of the cases of sex with adolescents that have come to light in the Church involved teenage boys, not girls. Do the math." (Between the Lines, May 22, 2002)

When Gleason was told most church experts say that 90% of the priests who committed sex abuse are homosexual and then asked if he thought homosexuals should be priests? He said “ I don’t think we have any answer on that.”

On December 5, 2002 the Catholic World News wrote: “A leading Vatican official has confirmed the Church's position that men with homosexual tendencies should not be ordained.

In a letter dated May 16, 2002, Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez-- who was, at the time, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship-- said:

‘Ordination to the diaconate or priesthood of persons with homosexual tendencies is absolutely unadvisable and imprudent, and from a pastoral point of view, extremely risky.’
The letter by Cardinal Medina Estevez, which was a response to a query from a bishop, has now been published in the November-December edition of a bulletin put out by the Congregation for Divine Worship.”

Do Typos Mean More to VOTF Fanatics than Facts?

So typos mean more to you than facts. I assume you mean McBrien supporting VOTF and the gay agenda is only guilt by association. Would VOTF’s Priest of Integrity Thomas Doyle’s gay spin convince you. (Please read below.)

Father forgiven them for they know not what they do. I'll pray for you.

God bless you,

Fred

In a message dated 6/2/2006 7:08:45 AM Pacific Standard Time, JCGCONNIFF writes:

A friend sent your sloppy attempt to smear VOTF by identifying it with the long campaign by homosexuals to take over everything from most federal research money FOR its signature diseases, to the Catholic Church. You will manage to persuade nobody by dragging McBrien in, as well. If you don't even know the medium is The Tidings, and not Tiding or the Tiding, what else is it you don't know in pushing your own cutesy little anything but hidden agenda?

The Sex Abuse Lobby, the Bishops and VOTF Fred Martinez

On Aug. 21, the Washington Times reported that the U.S. Catholic Bishops' sex abuse advisers are "people who have covered up ... sex between men and children." Moreover, these advisers have had close association with "experts" who "defended sex between men and children."

"The bishops recently chose Dr. Paul McHugh, former chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at John Hopkins University School of Medicine, as chief behavioral scientist for their new clergy sex crimes review board," the Reisman-Jarrard report in the Times said.

"Yet Dr. McHugh once said Johns Hopkins' Sexual Disorders Clinic, which treats molesters, was justified in concealing multiple incidents of child rape and fondling to police, despite a state law requiring staffers to report them."

McHugh's subordinate, Johns Hopkins clinic head Fred Berlin, according to the report, "admitted he had covered for the sex criminals, angering legislators, child-advocacy groups and state officials. But his actions were not surprising, because 'at least eight men have been convicted of sexually abusing Maryland children while under [Berlin's] treatment there.'"

Dr. Judith Reisman and Dennis Jarrard, who wrote the report, are experts in the field of sex abuse and obscenity. Jarrard served as an adviser to the Los Angeles County Commission on Obscenity and Pornography, while Reisman is an internationally known expert on Alfred Kinsey and sex abuse.

Reisman is president of The Institute for Media Education and has been a consultant to three U.S. Department of Justice administrations and the U.S. Department of Education, as well as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Money Is Berlin's Mentor

The Reisman-Jarrard report said Berlin has been the U.S. Catholic bishops' "chief adviser on child sexual abuse." Yet, according to Reisman, "Dr. Berlin described [pedophilia supporter] Dr. [John] Money as 'one of his most important mentors.'" The Washington Times report said, "Dr. Money once gave an interview to PAIDIKA – the Journal of Paedophilia, an 'academic' publication that advocates adult sex with children alongside ads for the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) and other pro-pedophilia groups. He told PAIDIKA that a 'relationship' that is 'totally mutual' between a boy of 10 or 11 and an adult male 'would not [be] pathological in any way.'"

On May 30, The Wanderer, a national Catholic weekly, said that the Money-Berlin advice to the bishops began when "the founder of St. Luke's Institute, Rev. Michael R. Peterson, M.D. [who later died of AIDS], urges the Church to rely on Berlin and Money in a 1985 paper."

Money Is a Disciple of Kinsey

Reisman, quoted in The Wanderer article, said that "Dr. Berlin and John Money, Ph.D., co-founded a celebrated sexual training and treatment center, The Johns Hopkins Sexual Disorders Clinic. … Dr. Money, as it turns out, was a dedicated Kinsey disciple, the mentor for June Reinisch [the third Kinsey Institute director] and on the advisory board of the Kinsey Institute."
The Wanderer piece, titled "The Real Experts Advise Bishops: Sue your Experts," claims much of the Church's "recent difficulties" have come about because "many of the Church's key sexuality advisors are associated with" the agenda created by Dr. Alfred Kinsey and the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University.

Reisman in the article urges the U.S. Bishops to sue their Kinsey experts for malpractice:

"To me, this is a case of massive medical malpractice by those in the human sexuality field, as well as consumer fraud, as well as a broad spectrum of other things for the lawyers to sort out. ...[T] hese so-called 'human sexuality educators' have been teaching behaviors that cause dysfunction, that are anti-authority and anti-Church."

The May 20 article, by Paul Likoudis, said that "Kinsey and his colleagues were the driving force behind the legalization of fornication, adultery, bestiality, pedophilia and other immoral, harmful behaviors."

Fraudulent Scientific Data Eliminates Penalties for Sexual Offenses

Kinsey, because of the worldwide influence of his fraudulent scientific data, has been called the father of the homosexual movement by homosexuals, and the father of the sexual revolution as well as the pornography industry and, some say, the sex abuse lobby.

James H. Jones, an Indiana University scholar and Kinsey Institute insider, in an exposé biography titled "Alfred C. Kinsey: A Public/Private Life," shows the motivation behind the Kinseyan "pan-sexualism" agenda.

In the document "How Junk Sex Science Created a Paradigm Shift in Society, Legislation and the Judiciary," Reisman said:

"Jones' data confirms other reports that Kinsey was a sexist, racist and atheist who excluded women, Jews, blacks, and moral traditionalists from his staff and hired only homosexuals and bisexuals (with one short-term exception). Kinsey only hired sexual deviants on whom he could rely to keep his secrets – including his [scientific] fraud, his 'uncommon desires,' and the child molesters he used to conduct child sex experiments. Jones also reported that Kinsey: coerced his wife into participating in acts of adultery and sodomy with his staff and co-authors (which were filmed), seduced male students at Indiana University (and bullied their wives into participating), filmed sex with his male co-workers (who were rewarded by promotion to co-authorship), and filmed himself participating in sado-masochistic sex rituals."

In this report Reisman also said, "Based on his [fraudulent scientific] data, Kinsey claimed that children enjoyed sex and the real harm of adult-child sex stemmed from 'hysterical' parents, teachers and professionals who reacted with anger and horror to children's disclosures. Based on his findings, many legislatures lightened or eliminated penalties for sexual offenses ... toward children as 'victims' in cases of incest and child molestation."

In 1991, the widely respected British medical journal The Lancet verified Reisman's research when it demanded that the Kinsey Institute be investigated, writing: "The Kinsey reports (one in 1948 on males and the companion five years later) claimed that sexual activity began much earlier in life ... and displayed less horror of age differences and same-sex relationships than anyone at the time imagined. It was as if, to follow Mr. Porter again, 'Anything goes'. In 'Kinsey, Sex and Fraud,' Dr. Judith A. Reisman and her colleagues demolish the foundations of the two [Kinsey] reports."

The Bishops, the "Sex Experts' and the Media's Cover-up

Many believe that the Kinseyan experts and the homosexual network within the Church protected the gay sex abuser at the Dallas meeting. As the National Review's Rod Dreher pointed out on June 13, "the need to avoid the 'elephant in the sacristy [the fact that the vast majority of priest sexual abusers are homosexuals],' in Mary Eberstadt's memorable phrase, is perhaps the only point on which the bishops and the media agree."

To this end, the bishops running the Dallas meeting, according to the June 13 National Review article, had staged "briefings for the media on various aspects of the abuse scandal" by Kinseyan psychiatric panelists such as Fred Berlin, Fr. Stephen Rossetti, Fr. Candice Connors and others with a pro-homosexual agenda. National Review's Dreher said, "The Rev. Stephen Rossetti, current president of St. Luke's, … is believed by some psychiatrists associated with the Catholic Medical Association to have been a big part of the problem, owing to the advice he's been giving bishops. Rossetti has most recently been downplaying the role homosexuality plays in the scandal."

The bishops, the sex experts and the mass media's suppression of the widely known fact that the vast majority of sexual abusers in the Church scandal are homosexuals was even contradicted earlier in the year by a liberal national magazine.

Also, according to the News Agency's "The World Seen From Rome," Hastings Wyman, syndicated homosexual columnist, wrote: "[T]he pattern of sexual abuse among Catholic clergy does suggest a gay problem … 90 percent of the cases of sex with adolescents that have come to light in the Church involved teenage boys, not girls. Do the math." (Between the Lines, May 22, 2002)

During the Dallas bishops meetings on June 15, the homosexual spin group Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) through its network in the Church reported news that the mass media censored. Homosexual activist Cathy Renna, writing for GLAAD's Web site, said that liberal bishops within the church protected the gay sex abuser at the Dallas meeting.

"We also learned more late last night about the anti-gay proposal offered by Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Neb. Bruskewitz's 'Amendment 27' would have stated that because the 'current homosexual culture' was the root cause of the sex-abuse crisis, the bishops would be required to force strict conformity with all church doctrines on sexuality. His proposal was soundly rejected on a voice vote, with a source inside the meeting telling me that it received only perhaps a half-dozen votes of support."

During a victory get-together, Renna said she met with "a number of familiar media faces" and Anne Barrett Doyle of the Coalition of Concerned Catholics who is a member of the steering committee for the lay reform movement Voice of the Faithful. According to Renna, "Anne was one of the first people I spoke with back in March when we were cultivating resources and contacts to offer media outlets. ... Seeing Anne at the cathedral brought to mind how far we've come in the past months." During those months, the mass media outlets, under the sway of gay activists like Renna and her friend Doyle of Voice of the Faithful, had censored George Will, Pope John Paul II's spokesman Dr. Joaquin Navarro-Valls, and the almost-all-conservative representatives in Dallas who attempted to report the link between homosexuality and sexual abuse by priests, which U.S. News & World Report detailed before the media cover-up.

VOTF and the Doyle-Peterson-Mouton Report

Activist Anne Barrett Doyle and her organization Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) have also taken part in the cover-up of the link between homosexuality and sexual abuse by priests. In fact, VOTF has been promoting the 1985 report by Fr. Michael R. Peterson, which brought the Kinsey experts and pan-sexualism's non-"judgmentalism" into the Church.

As stated earlier, The Wanderer said that the Kinseyan advice to the bishops began when Peterson, who founded the St. Luke Institute (which the Dallas panelists Connors and Rossetti later ran), urged "the Church to rely on Berlin and Money in a 1985 paper" and on his "pan-sexualism" St. Luke Institute.

Even the pro-gay National Catholic Reporter on May 17 admitted that "[t]he [church's highest court, the Vatican] Signatura's brief, later published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, stated: "St. Luke Institute, a clinic founded by a priest [Fr Michael Peterson] who is openly homosexual and based on a mixed doctrine of Freudian pan-sexualism and behaviorism, is surely not a suitable institution apt to judge rightly about the beliefs and the lifestyle of a Catholic priest."

The liberal bishops continued to rely on Peterson for advice despite the Vatican's warning, as shown in the pro-gay National Catholic Reporter's May 17 article:

"By the time of Peterson's death [of AIDS], Cardinal James Hickey of Washington had come to rely on Peterson, along with a number of bishops, for advice in handling sex-offending members of the clergy. During the Mass, Hickey praised Peterson's work at St. Luke Institute, calling him a 'brilliant and hard-working priest.'"

According to the May 30 The Wanderer article "The Homosexual Network and the 1985 Clergy Sex Abuse Report," Peterson was a "disciple" of John Money and a homosexual who once owned and operated his own "sex-change clinic" in San Francisco.

The 1985 Peterson report, which VOTF has been promoting, said:

"We have been hampered in our profession by extreme moral judgmentalism, if I may use the phrase, and it is only in very few medical schools in this country that the issue is treated or even addressed properly. The Johns Hopkins Hospital Sexual Disorders Clinic run by Dr. John Money [who became a pedophilia supporter] and Dr. Fred Berlin [who later covered up for the sex criminals] is probably the 'authority' scientific community. I know personally both of these highly respected scientists and I am very appreciative of their efforts to bring this psychiatric disorder out of the shadows and into the 'scientific daylight' so that we can begin to see the disorder as a psychiatric disease and not a moral weakness [alterboys.tripod.com/moutonreport/pag e_1x.html]."

The VOTF Web site said that the winner of its first VOTF Priest of Integrity Award, the Rev. Thomas Doyle, "[joined] with Rev. Michael Peterson, a priest/psychiatrist who founded a treatment center for clergy, and Ray Mouton, a Louisiana lawyer, [to write] a comprehensive report in 1985, and sent it to every bishop, identifying sexual abuse as a compulsive, lifelong psychosexual disorder, not a moral weakness."

In a report found on the Survivors' Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) Web site called "A Short History of the Manual," Doyle said that Money's disciple Peterson "was a friend and collaborator." The "Short History" report said the manual was an "instrument about how to deal with cases of priest-pedophilia."

However, the manual failed to bring out the homosexual sex abuse of teenage boys as the overwhelming component of the problem, which then as now is 90 percent or more of the sex abuse scandal. Also in the case of the pedophilia abuse, the vast majority are boys.

Even the Doyle-Peterson-Mouton manual said, "In my experience, most of the pedophiliac clerics I have seen and my colleagues have dealt with are homosexual pedophiles and not heterosexual pedophiles; this is surprising since the greater percentage in the general population is the opposite."

But instead of bringing out the homosexual abuse problem as the main portion of the scandal, the manual calls it a "Compulsive Heterosexual/Homosexual Acting Out," "Pedophilia or Sexual Molestation of Minors" and "Exhibitionism" problem. The Doyle-Peterson-Mouton manual said – and Bill Clinton would appreciate this – that "exposing the genitals" to unfamiliar persons "represents one of the 'victimless crimes.'" But the main problem is that the manual uses the standard gay activist spin that VOTF's Anne Barrett Doyle, GLAAD and the media used to censored conservatives in Dallas who attempted to report the link between homosexuality and sexual abuse by priests.

The tactic, as Peterson used for the most part in the Executive Summary of the manual, is to say that the scandal is about pedophilia and then claim that pedophilia is not associated with homosexuality, but is a heterosexual problem or at most a heterosexual/homosexual problem.

The gay activist expert and psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover, who wrote the book "Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth," which the Congressional Record of May 1996 called the "best book on homosexuality written in our times," states this is a standard spin. He writes:

"Activists are aware of the adverse effect on the gay-rights movement that could result if people perceived any degree of routine association between homosexuality and pedophilia. ... They have denied this association by focusing on the (true) fact that – in absolute numbers – heterosexuals commit more child molestation than homosexuals.
"But careful studies show that pedophilia is far more common among homosexuals than heterosexuals."

From the information that Kinsey expert Reisman has documented, Peterson was only following the Kinseyan advice of his mentors Money and Berlin, until his death of AIDS in 1987. Also, Peterson, who was homosexual – as with the gay Kinsey in his data – probably felt a need to cover up the gay connection to the scandal in order to protect his gay subculture.
Doyle and VOTF Have No Excuse

But Doyle and VOTF, which is the mass media's favorite "Catholic" lay organization to cure the Catholic Church of its sex-abuse scandal, have no excuse.

Every knowledgeable person without an agenda knows the fact that at least 90 percent of the problem is homosexuals "acting out" on teenage boys. VOTF and Doyle have failed to bring out this fact in their many media opportunities.

In fact, in the 1996 Doyle-Demarest memo, Doyle uses the gay activist spin: "In the past it was common to refer to priests who had sexually abused male children as homosexuals when in fact "pedophiles" would have been the correct term. ... I am convinced that the use of the term "homosexual" when referring to actions with young boys actually meant pedophilia or at least pedophilic acts [www.thelinkup.com/execsum.html]." Some orthodox Catholics wonder why VOTF, if it really wants to end the sex abuse scandal, gave the Priest of Integrity Award to Doyle instead of the Latino Fr. Enrique Rueda, who in 1982 wrote "The Homosexual Network."

In the book Rueda documented how disgraced homosexual Archbishop Rembert Weakland and other church leaders brought gay activists into the heart of the church. Connie Marshner of the Free Congress Foundation in a March report "We Were Warned" said:
"The name of the fair city of Boston appears frequently in Fr. Rueda's pages, giving it the dubious distinction of being the birthplace of NAMBLA, the North American Man/Boy Love Association (an interesting coincidence in light of subsequent developments). Also interesting to note is that one [now infamous mass pedophile] Fr. Paul Shanley attended the NAMBLA convention in Boston, supposedly on behalf of the then-Catholic Archbishop, Medeiros."

"In the early days of 'gay liberation,' 1972, a National Coalition of Gay Organizations adopted a "Gay Rights Platform." This list of demands included one to repeal all laws governing the age of sexual consent – a matter of some obvious concern to pederasts."

For his efforts to end the scandal Reuda, according to the March 30 The Wanderer article, was "exiled by his bishop Matthew Clark of Rochester, NY, refused incardination by every other American bishop, and is today, an official 'nonperson' in the American church."

If VOTF and the liberal bishops really want to end the church scandal, then they have to stop covering up the gay part of 90 percent of the scandal. If VOTF and Doyle really want to end the pedophilia part of the scandal, then they have to expose the fraudulent scientific data eliminating penalties for sexual abusers and the Kinseyan "experts" who are advising the bishops.

If not, then VOTF needs to take the advice that Doyle recently gave in Canada: "Any institution that enables the cover-up, protects the abusers or the authorities that hide them, doesn't deserve to exist."

Is the Architect of Obama's Campaign (and VOTF Founder) Anti-Catholic?

Is the architect of Obama's campaign and VOTF founder a anti-Catholic who bullhorns Catholic children? Read below to find out.

Fred

By Fr. Robert J. Carr

At the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston for several years innocent Catholics were verbally and emotionally harassed every Sunday for doing nothing more than attending mass. Some were called "The Cardinal's Whore", they were called traitors, pedophiles. They were threatened, they were told which door they could and could not enter and exit. Children were screamed at by men with bullhorns Catholic children and adults were harassed.

The organizer of these protests was a certain Marshall Ganz a democratic party strategist and the architect of the Barack Obama campaign. He was also seen outside the cathedral along with Mary Jo Bane of the Clinton Administration who is also a close associate of Hillary Clinton. Both teach at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Harvard supplied the media equiptment for the protesters to record their actions.

Ganz's intention as stated by the organization he formed was to stage a coup of the Catholic Church. http://www.votf.org/vineyard/July04/national.html#aimee
As I tell the Democrats who complain about my words: "There were no Republicans out there." Ganz used as his guidelines the book Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky, which, by the way, praises the Devil and gives the recipe on how to attack the Church. Ganz followed it step by step. One of those protesters who was also a staff member (volunteer) of VOTF, the organization Ganz was behind, wrote me the following in a hate mail:

LIAR!!! The church will crush itself . . . you don't need us pagans! hahaha.
I will be there to dance on the ashes and salt the earth.
By the way I was outside your cathedral from 2002 on WHERE'S MY CHECK??
IDIOT!!
Susan

As for your misinformed idea that the Catholics supported the NAZI's you are wrong there too. Deutsche Welle (DW-Voice of Germany) reports that in the elections that brought the NAZI's to power 85% of Catholics voted against the NAZI's whereas 85% of non-catholic Christians voted for the NAZI's. Catholics throughout the regime, again according the DW, were outspoken against the NAZI Policies including the anti-semitism. (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2920787,00.html)

Further the vast majority of non-jewish prisoners in the concentration camps were Catholics including many priests. (source: John Loftus, who at the time worked for the US State Department and also broke the story that the US Government hired NAZI war criminals to spy on the Russians.) The tactics I just described used against Catholics in Boston were also used against them in the Soviet Union and in NAZI Germany and I can safely assume China. You may check out the book He Leadeth Me by Walter Czizek where he describes these persecutions in one paragraph in the book.

Oh by the way among the protesters harassing our parishioners was Larry Phelps' group as well.

Please make sure you have your facts straight before you quote me again. To the moderator of this board from MSNBC, you too need to have your facts straight before you allow someone to attack me like this. God forbid that MSNBC or even NBC news would ever tell the story of the suffering of the parishioners at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross at the hands of Marshall Ganz, or the connection between Marshall Ganz as disciple of Saul Alinsky, and the Howard Dean campaign, the Barack Obama campaign and the rest of the Democratic Party.

Ann Coulter--On the Mark with Godless

By Fr. Robert J. Carr
Catholic Online

The Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston during the priest abuse crisis, I found myself in the midst of a movement that was bigger than a concern of safety of children. Indeed, it became apparent in no time at all, that we were dealing with a well organized operation that had connections to Harvard University, Boston University, Boston College, Hearst-Argyle Television and the Boston Globe. It also had a connection to one other organization whose members cringe when I affirm their involvement—The Democratic Party. The goal, to overthrow the Roman Catholic Church and replace it with a state friendly Church forcing the real one underground a la China.

This became clear after watching protesters, some of them paid, who harassed and verbally abused innocent children and adults with sexually charged words ("Children keep your hands on your privates, there are priests in [the Cathedral]", "You are entering the House of Rape." "You are the Cardinal’s whore." Spoken to a lone black woman entering the Cathedral to attend mass.) Innocent parishioners were labeled pedophiles, another defending the Church was spat upon by a protester. (The protester at another time held a sign that said Power Corrputs, we found out later she was a public school employee. She also sent me a gloating e-mail when she learned that inner city teens were killing each other on Boston streets.)

Yet, further investigation revealed that this movement rooted itself at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and had, among others, Mary Jo Bane, and Marshall Ganz as leaders in this vicious anti-Catholic attack. Bane, who calls herself a Catholic is a former member of the Clinton Administration. She is most famous for her call for children to be plucked from their families to be brought up by the government to ensure perfect equality in society. Ganz, a union organizer and strategist for the Dean Campaign, used his status as faculty at Harvard's Kennedy School and money from the Carnegie Foundation to promote the community organizing that was the harassment of innocent Catholics in Boston and elsewhere.

There were others, David D'Alessandro chairman of the Board of Boston University who called for a political movement against Archbishop O’Malley and thereby tipped his hand as to his involvement in the plot to overthrow the Catholic Church. He is Boston Mayor Thomas Menino's "go to guy". The mayor like every elected politician in Massachusetts, especially Boston remained quiet when innocent Catholics were being bashed. Menino now finds himself in the midst of a mess in which teens are killing each other in his city, the place that harassed innocent faithful in the interest of the safety of rich, white children in the suburbs. Yet, he made it virtually impossible for Catholics to play a part in stopping the violence, so the violence does not stop.

We discovered most, if not all of this, by the end of 2003. It was all confirmed on June 6, 2006 when Ann Coulter published her book Godless.

Reading her prose, I see that she also discovered that there is an organized vicious pagan, anti-Catholic, anti-faith attitude that has gripped the Democratic party and is seeking to snuff out religion and replace it with the doctrine taught at Harvard University. This can become the state religion because what is it they believe in at Harvard? Indeed, as Coulter points out, nothing but lies and vice and that is not illegal, especially in Massachusetts.

Coulter brings out through half her book the reality that the liberal doctrine is based on an atheistic understanding of Darwinism. Liberals hold this evolutionary theory as gospel because it allows them to reject God, she writes. She further illustrates that the liberal understanding of Darwin also creates a book burning attitude towards any science that discredits liberal ideas. After all, liberals remain blind to the fact that true Darwinism disproves atheism, not Christianity.

Coulter specifically illustrates her point using Surgeon General C. Everett Koop's efforts to promote safe sex practices and condom uses rather than indicate that AIDS was predominately found among active gay male populations. This refutation of the science is one of several examples that Coulter uses to show that liberals claim to be scientific except when science flies in the face of their agenda.

She gets the liberal tactics and agenda so right at each turn. Her most publicized criticism is in the case of her statements of the 9/11 widows. This is the act of using victims as a way of silencing disagreement, something she calls liberal infallibility. It is this tactic that has been used over and over again against the Catholic Church. Lawyer funded organizations such as SNAP promote their teaching that all priests are pedophiles while they keep America's eyes away from the fact that public school teachers' abuse accusation rate is almost 40 times that of Catholic priests. Yet, the media remains silent on public school abuse and continues to quote a small group of priest abuse victims, many of whom are an embarrassment to true victims who suffered in silence. A man who identified himself to me as the president of a Bay Area chapter of SNAP actually believed he would get away with stating that all Catholics are guilty of sex abuse. Indeed, I pointed out, his statements toward Catholics are similar to Osama Bin Laden's toward Americans. Yet, the lawyer funded SNAP make these statements because of the liberal infallibility doctrine that Coulter illustrates well in her book. Do you dare contradict a victim even when he speaks politically about things that are ridiculous and false?

The principle found in the 9/11 widows' issue she cites is the same one that says a victim or a family member of a victim of priest abuse not only has the right to seek justice, but to be rude, to harass innocent Catholics, to deny innocent Catholics the right to freedom of religion, to promote gay marriage in the Catholic Church, to demand women priests and to spit upon, verbally abuse, harass, threaten and emotionally abuse innocent Catholics and to slander innocent Catholic priests. This is despite the fact that most victims feel embarassed by the more vocal counterparts' actions.

Coulter highlights another aspect of the liberal toolbox—lies. Demonstrating in her chapter on what she calls the liberal sacrament of abortion, she shows how lies, lies and more lies are what liberals use to hide the truth of the reality of partial-birth abortion and the killing of innocent human life at any stage and any else they support that flies in the faith of common sense.

She does, however, demonstrate a lack of agreement with Catholics on the death penalty maintaining the Conservative arguments for its use.

It is clear that Coulter gets it. She has become the prophetess screaming not only that the Emperor has no clothes but that the liberals seek to silence people of faith. Their tactics are lies, they use victims speaking liberal doctrine who then call you heartless if you speak the truth and they use college professors who have no need to work a real job. Those who saw it at the Cathedral have been saying it since 2002. Now you can read about it yourself in her latest book.

In the 1860's Abraham Lincoln called Harriet Beecher Stowe the woman who started the civil war with her book Uncle Tom’s Cabin. I do not think Godless will be a spark to a civil war, but I do think it will be another nail in the coffin that buries Atheistic liberalism forever. After all, Lincoln also said that you cannot fool all the people all the time. The people are no longer fooled.

How CBS, ABC, NBC and VOTF Suppress Free Speech

By Fred Martinez

CBS insider Bernard Goldberg, in his book "Bias," compared the "media elite" to the "old Soviet Union" dictators as well as to Mafia bosses. The "News Mafia," as Goldberg calls the media, recently let its "reporters” know that the regime will not allow dissidence against its ally, the gay movement. The recent crackdown on dissenters is national, international and regional:

Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts shouted George Will down on ABC's "This Week" because he tried to state that the vast majority of priest sexual abusers are homosexuals. NewsMax writer Phil Brennan reported, "After three or four attempts to get a word in edgewise, Will gave up."

Pope John Paul II's spokesman Dr. Joaquin Navarro-Valls was greeted with a wave of protest at the Vatican. The Jewish World Review said Navarro-Valls received this greeting because he made the "link between homosexuality and sexual abuse by priests."

Covering the Dallas bishops sex abuse meeting earlier this month, the National Review’s online preview of its July 1 issue said: "I'm hearing from inside press circles that reporters, editors and producers don't want to look at the gay issue. Michael S. Rose, author of "Goodbye, Good Men" [a book on homosexual abuses within the Church] is in Dallas. I spoke yesterday to a TV reporter who wants to interview Rose about his findings, but who received word from the top to stay away from him."
These are only a few cases of the mass media’s official suppression of the widely known fact that the vast majority of sexual abusers are homosexuals. Cokie, Sam and their media accomplices are enforcing censorship that echoes memories of Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany.
Before the recent crackdown was solidified, however, U.S. News & World Report columnist John Leo wrote that studies have shown that no more than 5 percent of priests fit the pedophile description. He said, "Most sexual victims of priests are teenage boys [abused in homosexual acts], according to one estimate. A study of Chicago's 2,200 priests identified 40 sexual abusers, only one of whom was a pedophile."

Media Bias at Dallas Bishops Meeting

To get news at the time of the Dallas bishops meeting, reporters had to enter the underground world of homosexual spin organizations through their websites – for example, on June 15, the homosexual "information” group Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation

(GLAAD), through its moles in the Church, reported news that the mass media censored. Writing for GLAAD’s website, homosexual activist Cathy Renna said:

"We also learned more late last night about the anti-gay proposal offered by Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Neb. Bruskewitz's 'Amendment 27' would have stated that because the 'current homosexual culture' was the root cause of the sex-abuse crisis, the bishops would be required to force strict conformity with all Church doctrines on sexuality. His proposal was soundly rejected on a voice vote, with a source inside the meeting telling me that it received only perhaps a half-dozen votes of support."

During a victory get-together, Renna said she met with "a number of familiar media faces" and Anne Barrett Doyle of the Coalition of Concerned Catholics, who is a member of the steering committee for the lay reform movement Voice of the Faithful.

According to Renna, "Anne was one of the first people I spoke with back in March when we were cultivating resources and contacts to offer media outlets. ... Seeing Anne at the cathedral brought to mind how far we've come in the past months."

During those months, Cokie, Sam and the "News Mafia" had censored George Will, Pope John Paul II’s spokesman and almost all conservative spokespersons in Dallas who attempted to report the "link between homosexuality and sexual abuse by priests,” which the U.S. News & World Report detailed before the crackdown.

(To be fair, the crackdown broke down temporarily when Fox News host Brit Hume drolly said that allowing sex-abusing priests to marry wouldn’t help "unless you let them marry men or little boys.”)

But for the most part, only gay-approved "Catholic” lay reform activists like Anne Barrett Doyle who, together with the gay movement, worked for months cultivating "resources and contacts to offer media outlets,” were allowed to fully present their political agenda as "news” at Dallas.

’Catholic’ Lay Reform Activists

Time magazine in its June 17 issue, not to be outdone by the gay movement’s GLAAD, had its own "Catholic” lay reform activist, Mary Jo Bane, come forward to help the Church in its time of need. Bane said to Time that her "Catholic” lay organization and "power” plans were not "radical.”

However, according to attorney Gregory A. Hession, president of Family Legal Services, Bane is a radical. He said at his website:

"They hate family autonomy, parental authority, home schoolers, and Church authority.

"This is not an exaggeration. Dr. Mary Jo Bane, Clinton’s [former] Assistant Secretary of Administration for Children and Families in the Department of Health and Human Services, said: ‘If we want to talk about equality of opportunity for children, then the fact that children are raised in families means there's no equality. ... In order to raise children with equality, we must take them away from families and communally raise them.’ Her federal department is in charge of the national effort to mold state DSS [Department of Social Services] departments into their image.

"That is what the communists believe. The following statement issued at a congress of Russian Communist Party educators in 1918 sounds like the credo of the modern DSS agent."

This Clintonian bureaucratic experience is probably why the media and certain bishops are promoting Bane’s Hillary-like governmental ideas of centralized takeover of Church and family autonomy and authority. The bishops in Dallas created an Office for Child and Youth Protection to promote "safe environments" for children. Some have noted that so-called governmental "safe schools" and "safe spaces" are used by gay activists to promote homosexual agendas.

Some have joked that this is "an extension of the full employment act for homosexual and liberal Church bureaucrats.” Some wonder if this is not another way to attack the very ones who for two decades have been fighting against homosexual sex abuse and other abuses in the Church – that is, the faithful orthodox Catholic laity and priests.

The Child Protection Services under the DSS agents are notorious for taking children away from parents without any proof or due process, with usually only anonymous accusations. With the homosexual network inside the Church called the "lavender mafia” in control of many diocese bureaucracies, will orthodox laity and priests be targeted while homosexual sex abusers are protected by their gay allies?

Homosexual Network Within the Church

Many believe that the homosexual network within the Church protected the gay sex abusers at the Dallas meeting. As the National Review’s Rod Dreher pointed out on June 13, "the need to avoid the ’elephant in the sacristy [the fact that the vast majority of priest sexual abusers are homosexuals],’ in Mary Eberstadt's memorable phrase, is perhaps the only point on which the bishops and the media agree.”

To this end, the bishops running the Dallas meeting, according to the June 13 National Review’s article, had staged "briefings for the media on various aspects of the abuse scandal" by psychiatric panelists such as Rev. Canice Connors, Rev. Stephen Rossetti and others with a pro-homosexual agenda.

Connors is known among sex abuse victims for his psychiatric and "spiritual assessment" of mass pedophile Fr. John Geoghan. He wrote that "there are no particular recommendations concerning his spiritual life since he is involved in spiritual direction and seems to have a good prayer life."

While accepting psychiatric advice from the likes of Connors, the bishops in control of the meeting, however, refused the expertise of Catholic Medical Association (CMA) psychiatrists, who are faithful to the Church's full teachings. The CMA considered so-called expert Stephen Rossetti's advice to bishops as creating "a big part of" the sex abuse problem.

National Review's Dreher said, "The Rev. Stephen Rossetti, current president of St. Luke's, who is believed by some psychiatrists associated with the Catholic Medical Association to have been a big part of the problem, owing to the advice he's been giving bishops. Rossetti has most recently been downplaying the role homosexuality plays in the scandal."

American Psychiatric Association's "Lavender Mafia"

The "lavender mafia" (the homosexual network within the Church) was probably the reason the Catholic Medical Association's psychiatrists were banned, according to Dreher. According to psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) had its own "lavender mafia" when it voted to "normalize homosexuality" in the early 1970s.

The non-scientific as well as non-democratic Marxist and Nazi strategy used by the "lavender mafia" for its successful coup of the APA was explained by Satinover. The tactics used against the APA in the "normalization of homosexuality" are presented in his book "Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth." The Congressional Record of May 1996 called it the "best book on homosexuality written in our times."

Satinover said, "[T]he leadership of a homosexual faction within the APA planned a 'systematic effort to disrupt the annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association.' They defended this method of 'influence' on the grounds that the APA represented 'psychiatry as a social institution' rather than a scientific body or professional guild."

As all can see, the "News Mafia" and the "lavender mafia" (the gay movement) are not respecters of freedom of speech or scientific bodies. They have created their own Iron Curtain, which is suppression of free speech.

The News Mafia, the Lavender Mafia and the Democratic Party Axis

The Berlin Wall was the symbol of Marxist ideology. Goldberg in "Bias" called ABC, NBC and CBS the three big "News Mafia" families. These "Big Three" are a large basis of the gay movement's power. The "News Mafia" is the New Berlin Wall that is even now starting to crumble, as did the Berlin Wall and the "evil empire" which built that wall.

Goldberg's "Bias" is like Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago," the beginning of the end for the new "evil empire." If talk radio and news sources like NewsMax continue to courageously fight the bias and lies of the "Big Three," then they will crumble as more and more viewers leave them.

But even the "Big Three" are only stooges of the New York Times and Washington Post. Goldberg said, "The problem is that so many TV journalists simply don’t know how to think about certain issues until the New York Times and the Washington Post tell them what to think. Those big, important newspapers set the agenda that network news people follow."

In the case of the newspaper of record, the gay movement appears to hold in bondage the New York Times in more ways than one. NewsMax ran an article about Accuracy in Media's Reed Irvine's inquiry into the Times' bias. (See: New York Times on Defensive.) Irvine said Richard Berke, a national political correspondent for the Times, spoke at a gathering of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.

Irvine says that Berke assured the homosexual group that the Times would remain very receptive to the gay agenda because "three-fourths of those who regularly attend the daily meetings that determine what will be on the front page of the Times the next morning are 'not-so-closeted' homosexuals."

Goldberg unwittingly in analogy showed a similar situation at CBS when he said, "If CBS News were a prison instead of a journalistic enterprise, three-quarters of the producers and 100 percent of the vice presidents would be Dan's [Rather's] bitches."

Norman Mailer explains why the totalitarian relationship Dan Rather had with his CBS News producers and vice presidents, as well as his denial of natural objective truths, can lead to a Nietzschean will-to-power situation. In his book "Prisoner of Sex," Mailer showed why this moving away from natural objective truths such as heterosexual sex can lead to the homosexual prison totalitarian will to power.

This totalitarian will to power and denial of natural objective truths may be the reason why Goldberg considered the media's anti-conservative bias against the great "social" issues such as abortion and homosexuality to be even greater than against the "Democrat-versus-Republican sort" of issues.

He said, "Why were we doing PR for the AIDS lobby by spreading an epidemic of fear, telling our viewers about how AIDS was about to break out into mainstream heterosexual America, which simply was not true?”

But even in this, there is a political dimension. Former Gov. Pete du Pont pointed out in a Wall Street Journal article after the Bush-Gore 2000 presidential race that, when he compared maps, the adult video rental map and the map of the counties that went for Gore were the same.

E. Michael Jones, the editor of Culture War magazine, said, "If they want to survive as a party, the Republicans have to understand first of all, how sexual liberation is a form of political control, and secondly, how the Democrats increase their political power by mobilizing sexual deviance ... things like pornography and its scholastic variant, sex education, in addition to abortion and homosexuality. ... Those who are stupid enough to identify themselves with their sexual vices can always look to the Democratic Party and the dominant media culture as sympathetic to ... guarantee his bondage."

Soviet Republics of CBS, ABC and NBC

The next battle in this war for freedom against the gay-media axis is again in the Catholic Church. The gay movement’s spin organization GLAAD has already pointed to the next battle:

"With the Apostolic Visitations of U.S. seminaries expected to begin in August [and expected to last for two years], Dignity/USA and other church reform groups are going to be monitoring to see whether Vatican leaders will quietly attempt to purge gay men from the priesthood. GLAAD will be working closely with Dignity and our respective contacts inside the church to make sure the media are closely monitoring the process and outcomes of these visitations.”

Time‘s May 20 issue in its preparation for the Apostolic Visitations of U.S. seminaries showed its strategy by using words like "hate" and "scapegoat" to color faithful Catholics and the Church's attempt to uphold its 20-centuries-old moral teachings in its own seminaries. The piece quoted a homosexual priest saying, "We're all sort of like Anne Frank's family, up in the attic, waiting for the Nazis to come."

This is the same Soviet-Clinton strategy used on CBS insider Goldberg after he wrote about bias in the media. The liberal Goldberg was ripped as a right-wing scoundrel by Dan Rather and other media elites using words like "wacky charge," "weird," "bizarre" and "political activist" to discredit him and "divert attention" from the media elite's bias.

This shows that the dominant media comprise one of the last bastions of suppression of free speech within their own sovereign domain since the fall of the USSR. Goldberg in his own words was made a "nonperson” because he used his constitutional right of free speech to expose corruption in the Soviet Republics of CBS, ABC and NBC.

As liberal Goldberg said, "I was pointing fingers at the media elite, which only proved that I was the one who had a bias problem. Wasn’t this what used to happen – on a much scarier and devastating scale, for sure – in the old Soviet Union? A dissident says the elite are corrupt, so the elite throw him in the Gulag because his accusations prove beyond any doubt ... that the dissident is insane."

Media Elite’s Soviet-Clinton Strategy Against the Catholic Church

As in the case of Goldberg, the media elite’s Soviet-Clinton strategy against the Catholic Church is false. According to Michael Rose's accounts in "Goodbye, Good Men," the orthodox heterosexual seminarians are the victims of Nazi- or Stalinist-like strategies, not the homosexual network.

Father John Trigilio of the Harrisburg diocese said to Rose that the totalitarian gay subculture in the seminaries, which includes the faculties, made his 12 years in the schools something out of Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago."

Also in Rose’s book, a priest in the diocese of Austin, in reference to the pro-homosexual seminaries, said: "[T]he dynamic paralleled the brain-washing strategies of the Communist re-education camps. Even the connotations of the terms 'rigid,' 'pre-conciliar,' 'anti-community' resonated with Communist terms like 'capitalist,' 'bourgeois,' and 'anti-democratic.' "

All persons who love freedom must be prepared to monitor the gay-media axis' spin and tactics of "influence" at the Vatican’s Apostolic Visitations of U.S. seminaries.

If faithful Catholics and the Church's attempt to uphold its 2,000-year-old moral teachings in its own seminaries can be terrorized by the same Marxist and Nazi tactics used on the American Psychiatric Association and Bernard Goldberg, what American organization or person is safe?

Why VOTF's Solution to the Catholic Scandal is Wrong?

By Fred Martinez

The New York Times, Boston Globe as well as newspapers in Ireland and on the European landmass have recently been promoting Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) as having a solution to the Catholic Church’s sex-abuse scandal.

The VOTF solution to the scandal is to democratize the “authoritarian” church and have the bishops cede authority to lay Catholics.

For this group “democracy” appears to mean that the Bishops should cede their authority to lay “Catholics” such as possibly pro-gay abortion advocates like Leon Panetta, Bill Clinton's former chief of staff, or Robert Bennett who was Clinton’s hardnosed lawyer in the Paula Jones sex scandal.

If that’s the case then VOTF is too late because the US bishops have already attempted to cede these Clintonian “sex abuse experts” authority on their 12-member National Review Board to deal with the sexual abuse scandals.

It’s obvious that groups such as VOTF- who are calling for “democracy” because bishops are “tyrannical rulers”- don’t know many bishops. The reason there is a crisis is because many bishops - far from being tyrants - cede or refuse to use their authority to discipline liberals who are abusing their positions to morally corrupt the Catholic people.

The problem is that many bishops are acting like politicians.

Even Frank Bruni in the Oct 20 New York Times admitted the “American Bishops were responding to the child sexual-abuse crisis in an almost secular, political fashion: rewriting rules, confessing faults and acknowledging that they need outsiders [such as Panetta and Bennett] to keep them honest.”

Bishops as Politicians

Many bishops instead of steadfastly upholding the moral teachings of Jesus Christ, act like politicians worrying about the media and liberal diocese bureaucrats. Thus the media and liberal bureaucrats control even many otherwise once orthodox bishops by intimidation.

According to historian James Hitchcock:

“[I]n an [diocese] environment governed by ideology, this [orthodox] scenario really cannot play itself out. Liberals are quick to notice even small ‘backward’ steps by their bishop, and they test him by relentlessly pushing ahead with their agenda, so that he must either confront them or surrender.“ Professor of history at St. Louis University Hitchcock in the 1995 World Catholic Reporter said,

“Conservative secular journalists have cynically invented the ‘Strange New Respect Award’ which the media bestow on conservative public figures willing to betray their principles. Every bishop, whether or not he hankers after the award, knows that it exists.

(Thus in one diocese a bishop with a national reputation for conservatism before he was appointed now enjoys regular encomia from the local media, even as he actively cooperates in portraying conservative Catholics as unbalanced fanatics.)”

Conservative bishops also find that the full moral teachings of the church are undermined by their follow bishops and that they are treated as a second class citizen for their orthodoxy. Hitchcock who is a founder of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars said:

“Despite fifteen years of episcopal appointments by John Paul II, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops remained essentially a liberal body, in which determined conservatives have difficulty merely staving off serious defeats, much less winning substantial victories.

Once again it requires a particularly resolute kind of man to accept the status of a defined minority within a body which seems to place great importance on the spirit of belonging.

If nothing else, a new bishop is likely to discover quickly that he will be consistently on the losing side unless he moderates his positions substantially.”

According to Hitchcock, the Vatican since after 1980 has appointed bishops who are “personally orthodox and pious but low-keyed, cautious, and ‘non-confrontational.’" Unfortunately, through1970s the Holy See appointed liberal bishops who were “tolerant of dissent” as well as some that were “personally sympathetic” to dissent.

The problem is that the personally orthodox, but non-confrontational weak bishops are profiled for failure when confronted by hardened doctrinaire liberals and in some cases hardened doctrinaire sexual revolutionaries with agendas.

Sexual Revolutionaries in the Church

Catholic journalist Paul Likoudis in his book “Amchurch Comes Out: The U.S. Bishops, Pedophile Scandals and the Homosexual Agenda” presents a case that sexual revolutionaries although a small minority are to some extent in control of the American Catholic Church.

Likoudis documents that since the 1950s many bishops’ offices and other top management positions within the Church were filled by men of “perverse sexuality.“ These men created an old boy network with those of like mind to corrupt the sexual morality of Catholics in catechism and by sex abuse.

Fr Joseph Wilson who wrote the preface to “Amchurch Comes Out” in a nutshell explains the bishop crisis:

“If you stop for a few moments and quietly ponder the fact that the percentage of bishops whose names have been linked with sexual incidents is appreciably larger than the percentage of priests, it begins to seem less mysterious that so many sexual offenders in the priesthood were tolerated by their bishops.”

One central figure in the corruption of Catholic sexual morality was Clinton’s Cardinal- Joseph Cardinal Berdardin. In appreciation for all he had done for the cultural elites’ sexual revolution Berdardin at his “well-publicized death-bed” was visited by Hillary and received a letter from Bill Clinton.

The Most Influential Bishop in the History of America

Berdardin has been called “the most influential bishop in the history of America.” Neither orthodox Catholic nor liberal “Catholic” deny that his influence. Likoudis said:

“ No one disputes his influence: as creator of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and the United States Catholic Conference: as a bishop-maker who...consoled and empowered dissenters while professing his loyalty to his Roman superiors; as an architect of proposals to deconstruct the Roman liturgy, Catholic education and the all-important field of catechetics.”

What the liberal “Catholics“ and the media have covered up about “the most influential bishop in the history of America” according to “Amchurch Comes Out” was that “ one after another of Berdardin’s closest clerical friends from his native Diocese of Charleston made the newspapers for charges of pedophilia: Fr Eugene Condon, Fr Justin Goodwin, Fr James Robert Owen-Howard, Fr FX Seitz, in addition to continuing allegations against [Monsignor Frederick] Hopwood...[r]eputedly, he was Berdardin’s best friend and seminary roommate.”

Likoudis documents not only that Berdardin’s friends were involved in alleged sex abuse, but that some of his closest bishop friends were responsible for pedophiles such as Fr Kos of Dallas.

“Amchurch Comes Out” also exposes a number of other lesser know bishops and church leaders who were Berdardin clones. The thread that ties all these church leaders together is their pro-gay advocacy and activism “to deconstruct the Roman liturgy, Catholic education and the all-important field of catechetics.”

The reason for this activism is summed up by Fr Wilson:

“If sexual autonomy is one’s goal, one will not want the traditional Mass as the central symbol of the Faith, for the very form it takes will always seem a reproach... [a] nd as for catechesis: well, why else would one promulgate religion textbooks that avoided subjects such as commandments, precepts of the Church, original sin; why else would one find situation ethics attractive -- unless one were anxious to usher in a new religion, one much more amenable to one’s whims.”

Sexual Revolutionaries’ New Religion

According to Likoudis the doctrinaire liberals as well as the sexual revolutionaries in the Church with their liturgical “reform” have caused a sixty- percent decline in Mass attendance.

The liberal’s catechetical and “tolerance” parochial school reform has lead to two-thirds of Mass-going Catholics not being able to “identify the Catholic doctrine on the Eucharist” and eighth graders who are “learning about anal sex and bestiality in their Catholic school classrooms” according to Fr Wilson.

If what Likoudis and Wilson say is true then the liberals have created a religion that is not Catholicism. The new religion appears to be pan-sexualism in which original sin and personal sin are denied. Pan-sexualism in it’s extreme form allows all sexual acts including homosexuality, anal sex, bestiality, sex abuse of children and minors.

Even the National Catholic Reporter on May 17 admitted the Vatican knows about pan-sexualism. The May article said:

“The [church's highest court, the Vatican] Signatura's brief, later published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, stated: "St. Luke Institute [where the US bishops send sex abuse priests], a clinic founded by a priest[Fr Michael Peterson] who is openly homosexual and based on a mixed doctrine of Freudian pan-sexualism and behaviorism, is surely not a suitable institution apt to judge rightly about the beliefs and the lifestyle of a Catholic priest."

However, some liberal bishops continued to rely on Peterson for advice despite the Vatican's warning, as shown in the liberal National Catholic Reporter's May 17 article:

"By the time of Peterson's death [of AIDS], Cardinal James Hickey of Washington had come to rely on Peterson, along with a number of bishops, for advice in handling sex-offending members of the clergy. During the Mass, Hickey praised Peterson's work at St. Luke Institute, calling him a 'brilliant and hard-working priest.' "

If some liberals are doctrinaire pan-sexualist then they will pretend to promote policies against sex abuse only as a means of public relations. However, they will with the cover of the cultural elites’ media continue to promote and act out sexual perversions that are in opposition to twenty centuries of Catholic moral teachings.

The only change will be that the sexual revolutionaries will have to become cleverer in their war against Catholic morality. And as seen in the case of Bill Clinton if they stay true to doctrinaire pan-sexualism then the media will cover up and protect them from their sex scandals.

Orthodox Catholics Two Choices

The orthodox Catholics have only two choices if it is true such liberals and revolutionaries are in many of the Churches top leadership positions.

They can do nothing and as a result allow the liberals as well as the revolutionaries to continue to corrupt the young people of the Church. In such a case in a few decades not even one-third of the Catholics in the US will know or support the most central Catholic moral or faith teachings.

Remember liberal catechetical and parochial school “reforms” have made it possible for two-thirds of Mass-going Catholics to not be able to “identify the Catholic doctrine on the Eucharist.”

In addition, even though the Catechism of the Catholic Church states that " homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered...[and] under no circumstances can they be approved;” these same “reforms” have made it possible, as reported in recent polls, for 80% of high school Catholic seniors to believe (contrary to Church teaching) that homosexuals should have the “right” to marry while around two-third of adults agreed with the Churches position that gay marriages should not be legal according to the Sept 6 The Wanderer newspaper.

If this trend continues in three decades the vast majority of these Catholic high school seniors who are the future church and most the those “reformed” during these future decades by “Catholic” education will cease to be Catholic.

The Catholic Church in America will increasingly cease to exist except for a few orthodox Catholic colleges, the Catholic home schoolers and many times clandestinely orthodox Catholic parishes.

The other choice the people of US Church have is to first pray and then do everything under their power to influence the Vatican to start appointing a new type of bishop. One who is not afraid to confront sexual revolutionaries in the media as well as among their follow bishops and bureaucrats.

These strong bishops must be willing to discipline- as a good father- those who refuse to stop corrupting the Catholic youth. They must be willing to fire bureaucrats who refuse to abandon pan-sexualism. They must be willing to come under fire to the point of martyrdom from the pan-sexualist media and their liberal “Catholic” allies.

If the Vatican does not start appointing this new type of strong bishop, then Catholics in the United States must start joining orthodox Catholic parishes as well as groups such as the Apostolate for Consecration, Legionnaires of Christ and other groups like them, which are loyal to the Pope and the full teachings of the Church.

(The real fruit of Vatican II and John Paul II are these young spirited groups, which will hopefully lead to the evangelization of America as the old “Catholic” liberals fail to replace themselves because they offer the young only secularism with a Catholic veneer.)

These young groups are protected by the Vatican and offer refuge as well as support to orthodox Catholic families whose faith is often literally under siege. Such groups must be rallied round to grow rapidly so that if the Vatican waits a few decades to reform the bishops of America then there will still be a strong portion of Catholics to enjoy the reform.

In other words, it will be the job of these groups to evangelize the Catholics who are being run through the liberal catechetical and “reformed” parochial school programs if the Vatican doesn’t act.

Pope John Paul II needs Prayers

But most importantly Catholics must pray for John Paul II and his successor.

Everyone must remember that, for whatever the reason John Paul II has for not appointing strong bishops, he as well as his office of Pope (the holder of the keys of Peter) is hated and seen as a last stronghold against the sexual revolutionaries.

In nation after nation, at the World Summit for Children, from Beijing to Cairo, he is one of the last worldwide bastions fighting against the cultural elite’s agenda.

Remember the timing of the media’s "breaking" story was when Pope John Paul II’s health appeared to be deteriorating during masses. In fact the media was sending correspondents to Rome with expectation of a papal conclave.

On June 14, Mary Jo Anderson in the WorldNetDaily reported:

“The Globe and others have known for over a decade about the growing gay sub-culture in the Church, but the Globe and others simply winked – they are no less guilty of a cover up than Cardinal Law. It did not seem worthy of print. Until, that is, Pope John Paul II, the disliked "reactionary" pope faltered during Christmas masses.”

According to Anderson the goal of the timing of the scandal reporting was “to create chaos” and to built “momentum” so that “the cardinals can be stampeded into electing an unusual pope: a candidate approved by the New York Times and the United Nations.”

As can be seen, the Pope and the office of Peter (the Pope) needs prayers even as Catholics pray and work towards moving the Vatican to appointing strong bishops.

Orthodox Catholics should take heart because this may be a time the Vatican might be ready to listen to calls for strong orthodox bishops after seeing the US bishops in politician mode.

The Vatican may now be aware of the American bishops confusion as to “who they are.“

This new found Roman awareness of the bishops acting the part of politicians instead of the successors of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ was confirmed by the Oct 20 New York Times. The article by Frank Bruni was called “Vatican Defends Authority: US [Bishops] Sex-Abuse Policies that Cede Power to Lay People Rankle Rome.”

According to the New York Times’ report a Roman church official said: “They’re [the US bishops] dealing with the matter as if they don’t understand who they are.”

In his just released book “The Courage to be Catholic,” George Weigel said that because of archaic and poor information gathering methods the Pope and the Curia before the scandal had “a generally high impression of the U. S. hierarchy.” But if the New York Times report is correct then the crisis may have changed the Vatican’s impression.

Vatican insider Weigel in his book indicated that the Rome may be willing to listen to loyal orthodox Catholic input on how to fix the U S hierarchy.

Orthodox Catholics must take this change in the winds to heart in order to pray as well as do all in their power to help the Pope and Curia understand the need to appoint new bishops who act like the successors of the Twelve Apostles.

What is the Real Agenda of the National Catholic Reporter and VOTF?

By Fred Martinez

On February 20, the National Catholic Reporter (NCR) dissented from definitive Catholic teaching by endorsing homosexual marriage. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered…[and] under no circumstances can they be approved.”

The “Catholic” lay operated national newsweekly said, "The ruling by the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts allowing same-sex civil marriage is a beneficial step along the path of human understanding and human rights."

As a Special Commentary Columnist for NewsMax during the height of the Catholic scandal in 2002, I first became acquainted with NCR because of the lay-group Voice of the Faithful (VOTF).

In the summer of 2002, I received this e-mail from a NewsMax reader:

“Could you please direct me to a reliable assessment of the group Voice of the Faithful? A local ‘chapter’ is meeting this afternoon in Nashville, and it has been characterized by a local priest as ‘just conservative Catholics who want some changes.’”

In researching the lay reform group it emerged that NCR (considered the New York Times of Catholic liberals) was pushing VOTF as a solution for the Catholic sex-abuse scandal, even as the lay-group was being promoted as “just conservative Catholics who want some changes.”

The National Catholic Reporter is the most respected liberal Catholic newspaper in the United States. The publication has a readership of 120,000- with 40% of its reader being religious or clergy. It is in 96 countries and a frequent winner of the Catholic Press Association’s Award for General Excellence, according to the NCR website.

The research revealed a cover-up by NRC and VOTF. Kelly Clark of The Lady In The Pew website in a review of my new book The Hidden Axis summarized what was brought to light:

“Fred Martinez delivers plenty of much needed ‘tough love’ to the Church in America today. Hidden Axis covers much ground including a neat turning of the tables on the lay group called Voice of the Faithful. VOTF was ostensibly formed in response to the sex-abuse scandal and ‘cover-up’ and is in fact actively participating in the continuing cover-up by incessantly refusing to acknowledge the link between the scandal and homosexual priests.”

VOTF’s Priest of Integrity and the Homosexual Agenda

The winner of the first VOTF Priest of Integrity Award, the Rev. Thomas Doyle on the Internations Justice Federation website, in 2003, attacked some articles including mine, which exposed the cover-up as well as the "sex-experts" that helped to create the vast majority of Catholic scandal headlines. Doyle said:

"The articles are based on writings of Dr. Judith Reisman who has apparently devoted her life to a critical study of the work and methods of Dr. Alfred Kinsey... Reisman, herself not a clinician but with a Ph.D. in communications, claims that Berlin and Money are Kinsey disciples whose primary agenda is putting sexual abusers back on the street and promoting the so-called "homosexual agenda."

"Reisman, and those who support her contentions, claim that the [Doyle-Peterson-Mouton] ‘Manual’ was actually intended to support this nebulous "homosexual agenda" ...Fortunately Dr. Riesman’s allegations and the contentions of those who build on her ideas, are taken seriously by only a few and those few are limited to the extreme ‘right’ (for lack of a better term) who seem obsessed by sex in any form, and with homosexuality in particular." [http://www32.brinkster.com/interjustice/rcscandals3.html]

Doyle failed to mention that in 1991, the widely respected British medical journal The Lancet verified Reisman’s research when it demanded that the Kinsey Institute be investigated, writing:

"The Kinsey reports (one in 1948 on males and the companion five years later) claimed that sexual activity began much earlier in life…and displayed less horror of age differences and same-sex relationships than anyone at the time imagined. It was as if, to follow Mr. Porter again, ‘Anything goes’. In "Kinsey, Sex and Fraud," Dr. Judith A. Reisman and her colleagues demolish the foundations of the two [Kinsey] reports."

In the document "How Junk Sex Science Created a Paradigm Shift in Society, Legislation and the Judiciary," Reisman said:

"Based on his [fraudulent scientific] data, Kinsey claimed that children enjoyed sex and the real harm of adult-child sex stemmed from ‘hysterical’ parents, teachers and professionals who reacted with anger and horror to children’s disclosures. Based on his findings, many legislatures lightened or eliminated penalties for sexual offenses…toward children as ‘victims’ in cases of incest and child molestation."

Doyle also decided not to speak about what the Doyle-Peterson-Mouton manual said—and Bill Clinton would appreciate this—that "exposing the genitals" to unfamiliar persons "represents one of the ‘victimless crimes.’"

But the main problem is that the manual uses the standard gay activist spin that the gay movement and the media used to censor the Vatican and all conservatives who attempted to report the link between homosexuality and sexual abuse by priests in 2002.

The tactic, as used for the most part in the Executive Summary of the manual, is to say that the scandal is about pedophilia and then claim that pedophilia is not associated with homosexuality, but is a heterosexual problem or at most a heterosexual/homosexual problem.

The gay activist expert and psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover, who wrote the book "Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth," which the Congressional Record of May 1996 called the "best book on homosexuality written in our times," states this is a standard spin. He writes:

"Activists are aware of the adverse effect on the gay-rights movement that could result if people perceived any degree of routine association between homosexuality and pedophilia…They have denied this association by focusing on the (true) fact that—in absolute numbers—heterosexuals commit more child molestation than homosexuals." "But careful studies show that pedophilia is far more common among homosexuals than heterosexuals."

According to an article by Register Correspondent Ellen Rossini, "Although heterosexuals outnumber homosexuals by a ratio of at least 20 to 1, homosexual pedophiles commit about one-third of the total number of child sex offenses," said Tim Dailey, a senior fellow for culture studies at the Family Research Council. (The National Catholic Register, September 15-21, 2002) [http://www.ncregister.com/register_News/091002sem.htm]

With the above in mind I said in my book, "If VOTF and the liberal bishops really want to end the church scandal, then they have to stop covering up the gay part of 90 percent of the scandal [The February 2004 National Review Board Report says 81 percent of the victims were males]. If VOTF and Doyle really want to end the pedophilia part of the scandal, then they have to expose the fraudulent scientific data eliminating penalties for sexual abusers and the Kinseyan ‘experts’ who are advising the bishops."

If not, then VOTF needs to take the advice that Doyle gave in Canada in 2002:

"Any institution that enables the cover-up, protects the abusers or the authorities that hide them, doesn’t deserve to exist."
National Catholic Reporter’s Standard Gay Activist Spin

National Catholic Reporter and Fr. Richard McBrien (the biggest name among liberal Catholic theologians supporting VOTF) can be included in the list of those who covered-up the "link between the scandal and homosexual priests."

On April 5, 2002, NCR was using the standard gay activist spin. The spin entails saying that the scandal is about pedophilia and then claiming that pedophilia is not associated with homosexuality. McBrien in a 2002 NCR article wrote:

"Even though prominent psychiatrists and psychologists have been reminding us on television and in news interviews that there is no necessary link between homosexuality and pedophilia, the popular view to the contrary still holds sway in many parts of the church and in society at large." [http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m1141/22_38/84970282/p1/article.jhtml]

On March 12, 2004, the National Catholic Reporter, in an article by Doyle, was still covering-up the fact that the scandal was overwhelmingly a homosexual priest sex-abuse problem. Although now he and the NCR weren‘t using the gay spin that the scandal is about pedophilia and then claiming that pedophilia is not associated with homosexuality. The NCR and the Doyle spin now was:

"Others have tried to unsuccessfully minimize the issue with the hardly newsworthy revelation that only a small percentage are really true pedophiles and most victims are above the age of reason. Again, a resounding so what? Abuse is abuse, and that’s the point, not the age of the victims...The spin also tries to blame the press, the lawyers and the so-called dissenters and unorthodox." [http://www.natcath.com/NCR_Online/archives2/2004a/031204/031204d.php]

For Doyle, VOTF and the National Catholic Reporter enforcement of orthodox morality in penal law and canon law are not the solution to sexual wrongdoing. Instead for these groups a change in the church government is the solution. Doyle in the March 12, NRC article said:

"This is all much bigger than a challenge to celibacy, injustice or the monarchical governmental system. It is all of the above. If we add the element of hope to the embattled landscape perhaps we can see it all as a moment in the age-old evolution of Catholicism from an institutional kingdom to the people of God." [http://www.natcath.com/NCR_Online/archives2/2004a/031204/031204d.php]

New York Times and NCR’s Desired "Unusual Pope"

With this desired change in the “old order” of the "institutional kingdom" in mind, it must be remembered that the timing of the media’s "breaking" of the sex-abuse Catholic scandal story was when Pope John Paul II’s health appeared to be deteriorating during masses. In fact the media was sending correspondents to Rome with expectation of a papal conclave.

Was the media’s "breaking" of the sex-abuse Catholic scandal story, timing or coincidence?

Either way the media’s intent was to use the story to promote dissent. That is why during the height of the scandal “ CNN trots out folks like ...CNN's guest 'expert,' Sr. Bridget Mary Meehan, who calls for 'structural changes' that allow laity greater say. Meehan and others of her ilk expect that once the laity is given control of the Church, it will relax sexual morality” according to journalist Mary Jo Anderson.

On June 14, 2002 Anderson in the WorldNetDaily reported: "The Globe and others have known for over a decade about the growing gay sub-culture in the Church, but the Globe and others [notably the New York Times and most of the mass media] simply winked—they are no less guilty of a cover up than Cardinal Law. It did not seem worthy of print. Until, that is, Pope John Paul II, the disliked “reactionary” pope and others faltered during Christmas masses."

According to Anderson the goal of the scandal reporting was "to use this crisis to create chaos so large that a new pope will have to deal with the crisis as his first order of business. If a momentum is built that insists that the old order is the problem, perhaps the cardinals can be stampeded into electing an unusual pope: a candidate approved by the New York Times and the United Nations.” [http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp? ARTICLE_ID=27962 ]

The TV journalists and Times’ "unusual pope" would be a pontiff who is receptive to the gay agenda.

Ex-CBS insider Bernard Goldberg in his book "Bias" Goldberg said, "The problem is that so many TV journalists simply don’t know how to think about certain issues until the New York Times and the Washington Post tell them what to think. Those big, important newspapers set the agenda that network news people follow."

The gay movement appears to set the agenda for the New York Time, which sets the agenda for the rest of the media. NewsMax ran an article about Accuracy in Media’s Reed Irving’s inquiry into the NY Times bias. Irving said Richard Berke, a national political correspondent for the Times, spoke at a gathering of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. Irvine says that Berke assured the homosexual group that the Times would remain very receptive to the gay agenda because "three-fourths of those who regularly attend the daily meetings that determine what will be on the front page of the Times the next morning are ‘not-so-closeted’ homosexuals."

The Times‘ “unusual pope" also would be a pontiff who is receptive to the ordination of women. The New York Times, a few years back, gave Fr. McBrien the opportunity to attack the Pope. He said to the New York newspaper:

"There are literally millions of Catholics in the U.S. alone who see no reason why women can't be ordained, and they're not going to decide they're not Catholics and stop going to church...it is the Pope and the Vatican who will be seen as being out of step." [http://sfbayc.org/magazine/html/ctanews.htm]

The National Catholic Reporter (a long time forum for dissent against the definitive Catholic teaching against women's ordination ) on Sept 10, 1999 in an article by Michael J. Farrell said that they must remain steadfast in their support of Fr. Richard McBrien despite "letter writers who criticize the paper for carrying the syndicated columns of the Notre Dame professor."

"The complainers' main complaint, it seems, is that McBrien is not sufficiently deferential to the pope," Farrell said.

" It is no secret that this papacy has placed loyalty to the Holy Father high among its priorities. An atmosphere was created in which criticism of the pope was regarded as defiance. This attitude has flourished in right-wing circles in this country." [http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m1141/39_35/56458761/p1/article.jhtml?term=]

VOTF Supporter Fr. McBrien and a Former National Catholic Reporter Contributor

In the March 12, NRC issue there appeared an editorial supporting an ad that VOTF placed in the New York Times two days after the National Review Board released the "Report on the Crisis in the Catholic Church in the United States." In the ad, VOTF was still covering-up the homosexual link to the scandal, but NCR supported the lay organization because the "ad had the sound of a campaign getting underway."

The Times ad according to the National Catholic Reporter petitioned signatures for the following:

That Pope John Paul II "meet with an international delegation of victims/survivors of clergy sexual abuse";That the pope hold responsible those bishops "who knowingly transferred sexually abusive clergy" and accept or call for resignations "where appropriate";That each U.S. bishop disclose details of their oversight in transferring abusive clergy and clergy who have credible allegations against them. [http://www.natcath.com/NCR_Online/archives2/2004a/031204/031204q.php]
One of the main supporters of VOTF and possibly the most posted columnist on the lay-organization’s website, Fr. McBrien made a similar plea. According to the January 29, 2004 The Observer online, an independent newspaper serving Notre Dame:
" In the Jan. 27 Observer article "Campus, Seminary Reacts to Priest Scandal, ‘Fr. Richard McBrien asserts that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' audit of its program for preventing sexual abuse by priests ‘could have been prevented if the Church has responded properly when allegations began coming to light over 25 years ago.’ According to McBrien, "some ... dioceses were not as forthcoming - and still are not - as they should be.’"

However, it appears that McBrien might not be an appropriate person to call for “the pope [to] hold responsible those bishops "who knowingly transferred sexually abusive clergy" and accept or call for resignations "where appropriate." According to The Observer:

"Given his current sanctimonious condemnation of the Church regarding clergy sexual abuse, one might assume McBrien, to use his words, "responded properly" when [ Fr. James] Burtchaell's [homosexual] sexual misconduct was brought to his attention. To the contrary, McBrien concealed Burtchaell's conduct; he did not discipline him or remove him from contact with students. In short, McBrien continued to put Notre Dame students at risk of a known sexual predator." "Although McBrien had knowledge of [the former National Catholic Reporter contributor] Burtchaell's crimes as early as 1989, Burtchaell's sexual abuse of Notre Dame students was not made public until late 1991. When asked about Burtchaell's serial sexual abuse of students after concealing knowledge thereof for more than two years, McBrien refused to "comment on the matter." See National Catholic Reporter (Dec. 6, 1991)." [http://www.ndsmcobserver.com/news/2004/01/29/Viewpoint/Mcbrien.Forced.To.Deal.With.His.Past-590959.shtml and http://www.natcath.com/crisis/120691.htm]

Apparently, NCR and McBrien need to investigate themselves to see if they "responded properly" when sexual misconduct was brought to their attention.

What Structural Changes do VOTF and NCR Want to Make?

McBrien and the National Catholic Reporter in their writings and accommodating coverage of Voice of the Faithful have steadfastly supported VOTF’s stated goal for a campaign to change the Church’s structure. In 2002, James Likoudis told me what these structure changes might be: "Richard P. McBrien oozes with admiration for this group [Voice of the Faithful] seeking to restructure the Church, democratize it, gain financial control of it, and subordinate our Bishops to this new lay class of secular feudal lords and professionals," Catholics United for the Faith’s Likoudis said.

"It’s a power grab under the guise of more ‘lay participation’ and is made up of those dissenting liberals and radicals who do not like Catholic moral teaching but do like Dignity and GLAAD [radical homosexual organizations]."

In the summer of 2003, when I asked editor of Crisis Magazine and former professor of Philosophy at Fordham University, Deal W. Hudson, what are the structural changes that Voice of the Faithful wants to make. He said:

"They’ve never defined them in any way. So the only conclusion you can come to is that the kind of structural changes they want are those represented by the people they invite to address their meetings," Hudson said. "Which are those who want ordination of women, married priests, to end priestly celibacy and finally to end Vatican authority over the parishes in the United States."

Is VOTF “Anti-Catholic?”

By Fred Martinez

Back on Oct. 11, 2002 Archbishop John Myers of Newark, N.J. wrote “Voice of the Faithful [VOTF]...has used the current crisis in the Church as a springboard for presenting an agenda that is anti-Church and, ultimately, anti-Catholic.”

Myers is considered one of the most pro-life and orthodox members of the American Bishops. When bishop of Peoria, IL, he published a pastoral letter calling it "morally illicit" for Catholics to vote for pro-abortion candidates.

In the October column called “A Voice Not Rooted in Faith” printed in the Catholic Advocate, the archdiocesan newspaper of Newark, the Archbishop said that VOTF “has as its purposes: to act as a cover for dissent...and to openly attack the Church hierarchy. Myers wrote:

“[A]ltering Church teaching on sexual morality, and defiance of the apostolic authority that has guided the Church since its founding 2,000 years ago by Our Lord Jesus Christ, have all found a place in the ranks of Voice of the Faithful.”

I contacted Voice of the Faithful’s central office so they could respond to critics of their agenda.

The VOTF receptionist said Steve Krueger, the Interim Executive Director, would call this reporter back shortly. After not getting a return call, I again contacted the central office a second time, but the receptionist said Krueger was not available. Krueger never called back.

When the publisher as well as editor of Crisis Magazine and former professor of Philosophy at Fordham University, Deal W. Hudson was asked if he agreed with Archbishop Myers’ criticism on VOTF.

The former philosophy professor concurred that “absolutely” Voice of the Faithful’s agenda is still “ultimately, anti-Catholic.”

He has for months been warning Catholics about VOTF through his Catholic monthly published in Washington, D.C. and other publications. Hudson in a recent interview with this journalist said:

“I think it’s anti-Catholic in the sense that they are trying to change fundamental Church teachings, which are at the heart of Catholic identity.”

Deal Hudson said that orthodox Catholics who join VOTF “are being fooled. They are falling for a bait and switch tactic, which is being used throughout the United States. Voice of the Faithful leadership well know what they are doing, but they are willing to practice a deception for the sake of spreading a dissenting agenda.”

One day before Archbishop Myers’ statement that VOTF “has as its purposes: to act as a cover for dissent,” VOTF president James E. Post wrote a letter and did an interview with the Boston Globe on October 10, 2002 where he claimed “we are not a dissident group.''

The Globe article said that Post's letter “posted on the group's Web site, www.votf.org, asserts that ''we accept the teaching authority of the church.”

However the VOTF site then and now also states that they do not ''advocate ...the exclusion of homosexuals from the priesthood,” which is contrary to Church directives.

On December 5, 2002 the Catholic World News reported that the Church reaffirmed the Sacred Congregation for Religious in Rome in 1961 statement: "Those affected by the perverse inclination to homosexuality or pederasty should be excluded from religious vows and ordination."The Catholic World News wrote:

“In a letter dated May 16, 2002, Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez-- who was, at the time, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship-- said:

‘Ordination to the diaconate or priesthood of persons with homosexual tendencies is absolutely unadvisable and imprudent, and from a pastoral point of view, extremely risky.’”

When Hudson was asked why Voice of the Faithful appeared to be covering up the fact that 90% of the sex abuse scandal was homosexual priests acting out on adolescents, he said:

“Because their agenda is being supported by priests in the Boston [Archdiocese] who themselves do not want the homosexual dimension of the scandal addressed. And these are the members of the Boston Priests Forum.”

In an article on Voice of the Faithful’s agenda, the Notre Dame Magazine website called Keep the Faith, Change the Church Richard Conklin wrote:

“It is the third objective -- structural change in the church -- that holds the seeds of divisiveness that some bishops have accused VOTF of fostering.”

“’It is a struggle to keep traditional Catholics in VOTF," [Voice of the Faithful founder Jim] Muller concedes, "but we must keep 'structural change' undefined until its specifics can be determined by a lay voice that includes all spectrums.’"

VOTF founder Muller despite claiming “structural change” must remain undefined in the Notre Dame Magazine said:

"The problem is a concentration of power in the hierarchy," he asserts. "It is as though the executive, legislative and judicial branches were combined. We want...more 'democracy' in the church. Muller makes it clear it is not a democracy of theology he envisions -- there will be no votes on the Nicene Creed.”

However, when Hudson was asked what are the structural changes that Voice of the Faithful wants to make he said:

“They’ve never defined them in any way. So the only conclusion you can come to is that the kind of structural changes they want are those represented by the people they invite to address their meetings,” Hudson said.

“Which are those who want ordination of women, married priests, to end priestly celibacy and finally to end Vatican authority over the parishes in the United States.”

The VOTF website (www.votf.org/Structural_Change/structural.html) said that the Structural Change Working Group (SCWG) ”has been working to define what VOTF means by its Goal 3.”

According to the site “The group [SCWG] has also consulted with Fr. Ladislas Orsy, S.J., in an effort to ensure that its conclusions are sound, and that none of its statements could be misunderstood. Fr. Orsy has been retained as a professional outside consultant in canon law and related matters by VOTF.”

It appears that Fr. Orsy might be a questionable choice as a consultant according to the American Cardinal Dulles and Cardinal Ratzinger of the Vatican.

The American Cardinal in a November 25, 2000 America article (www.bigbrother.net/~mugwump/Dulles/dulles_online.html) said of the priest:

“On the papal teaching office, Father Orsy renews his plea (made in several other places) that Catholics should be free to dissent from definitive teaching.”

Cardina1 Ratzinger in an article published in Céide May/June 1999 (found at www.womanpriest.org/teaching/ratzing1.htm) said:

“Father Orsy assures us that the new canons were not needed because the category of definitively proposed teaching “as it appears now in official documents had not developed yet”...How the author could have come to this thesis is inexplicable.“

A few paragraphs later the Cardinal wrote:

“I do not find it objective that Fr.Orsy constructs an opposition [contradiction] between Ad tuendam fidem and Vatican II. [He writes that] the Council intended no threats and penalties because the Fathers of the Council “trusted that truth will attract by its own beauty and strength” ... In fact, a large number of the bishops of the world wish today for the “sharpening” of the penal law; this is a consequence of the cases of priests guilty of paedophilia. The protection of the rights of the accused priests has become so strong that the bishops feel powerless in cases when for the sake of the faithful they should have the power to intervene.”
