Obama: Palin is a Pig with Lipstick

The blunt reference by Obama was to Sarah Palin’s famous RNC address, in which she ad-libbed a joke:

Palin to crowd: “You know what the difference is between a hockey mom and a Pit Bull?”

Pointing to her mouth, she answered rhetorically: “Lipstick!”

Fast forward six days later to an Obama rally in Lebanon, Virginia:

Obama to crowd: “You can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig.”

The understood reference to Palin provoked the Obama crowd into rapture. It was Obama’s largest applause line of the day. Apologists will pretend that Obama meant something else, and the campaign will issue a “clarification” but his liberal backers get it.

Insiders explain that Obama is attempting to start a high-risk war against Palin. The correct approach for McCain-Palin is not to allow themselves to be dragged into a fight about sexism in which she could sound like a whiner. Let the media do its job with Obama’s rather foolish statement.

Calling Sarah Palin a pig was apparently no accident. Obama’s people whisper that is a new tactic, perhaps one of desperation but it is calculated to upset McCain’s momentum. Obama will attempt to drag McCain into a sexism versus racism war. Watch for that approach in the coming days, as the campaign will bring race back into the election.
