Andrew S. Rogowski’s suggestion that ‘Catholics can vote for Obama in good conscience’ is patently absurd! Catholics don’t promote the commission of mortal sin by voting for people whose pro-abortion positions are so extreme that they see nothing wrong with the non-support of Born Alive Infant Protection Acts, which Obama did on four occasions. Even Senators Clinton, Boxer, and NARAL ultimately supported BAIPA, but not Obama.

The NY bishops highlighted the Catholic obligation to form one's conscience to discern which issues carry a greater moral weight. The most important of these issues, write the bishops, is “the inalienable right to life of every innocent human person, which outweighs other concerns.”

When Obama addressed a Planned Parenthood event on July 17, 2007, he said, “The first thing I will do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.”

KC Bishop Finn and USCCB Pro-Life Chairman Cardinal Rigali say the proposed Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) would “immediately make null and void every current restriction on abortion in all jurisdictions. The legislation unleashes a complete and unrestricted access to abortion. We cannot allow this to happen. We cannot tolerate an even greater loss of innocent human lives.”

Rigali continues, “We face the threat of a federal bill that, if enacted, would obliterate virtually all the gains of the past 35 years and cause the abortion rate to skyrocket. FOCA establishes abortion as a ‘fundamental right’ throughout the nine months of pregnancy.”

Aren’t the deaths of 50,000,000 innocents enough?
